There are many lessons that could go along with a digital camera. One of my favorites was used in one of the first grade classrooms I observed in. The children were learning to identify trees by their leaves. As we all know, leaves tend to crumble when they become dry, so the teacher instructed them to go outside and find leaves and then they took pictures of the leaves. After printing the pictures off, they would write the name of the tree that the leaf came from. They then used the pictures to help practice the identification process. For the test, the teacher copied the students’ pictures for the test!

This is a great lesson that children will be actively involved with. The children are able to work hands-on with digital cameras. They are also able to explore the differences between leaves and why leaves are different on every tree. Printing off pictures for a worksheet will allow the children to identify the leaves which will help them remember the information and also give them a visual representation of that leaf/tree. A couple questions that you could include on the worksheet are what causes leaves to fall off trees, or why do leaves change color. This could tie into with a season's unit.
This is a great activity to do with that age group. I love the fact that the children get to take the pictures and then the teacher uses to pictures on the test or in a worksheet. That would make the students feel very involved in their learning.
That is such a neat idea! I am sure the students would enjoy taking pictures and then seeing their pictures on a test! This would allow the students to be actively involved in the whole learning process from start to finish! When I get my own classroom someday, I think I may try this activity!
A neat trick or two that i learned about leaves. You can put them in between contact paper and that should keep them. Also, I did a project a few years ago where you put modge podge on the leaves and it keeps them and makes them tougher. I really like your lesson plan ideas though. Good use of a digital camera and fun for the kids to do.
This is such a great lesson for kids in learning about different trees and how to identify them. I love that the kids are actually taking the pictures and that the teacher later on uses the childrens' pictures for the test. Another option would be actually videotaping the different trees. Each student/group could take turns videotaping and then the teacher could edit it and add titles to show the children. Great job!
