#7: Half-Way Reflection
So far, I have had a busy semester and have been somewhat overwhelmed (and it is not just this class). I guess I never really realized the amount of technology that can be used in the early elementary classrooms! I think that using computers is a good idea; it gets students acquainted with the technology so that they can use it in their future years. My favorite concept so far is working with Excel. I love using it and it still amazes me that a computer program can do what this program does (equations can be dragged down a column instead of copied and pasted!). Other than Excel, I think that learning to use a program that can create videos is good. As much as I despised putting that video together (I like using the MovieMaker program much more than I liked iMovie), I think that I may find that experience beneficial when I become a teacher. Even though I do not think that I will use that program as a teacher now, I may in the future.

I agree that I have never realized how much technology is used in the classroom. It is amazing to compare from now to 10 years ago, and 10 years from now. It is growing everyday. I did not like using Excel, but I do agree that it will be very beneficial when we are teachers. I also agreed that learning how to put a video together may not be helpful for us now, but you never know what is in storage for the future, and video making might be the next big thing.
I agree that we can find ways to use technology even if we might not use it all the time or we think we will use it as a teacher. At first, I wasn't sure how I was going to use making videos with iMovie because it's not likely that I will be teaching preschoolers how to make a movie, but older children might be able to work in groups to make a movie based on a research project. Also, I realized if I know how to make movies I can help visually enhance lessons by presenting material in a movie.
I have also been feeing extremely overwhelmed this semester so I know what you're going through! I never really realized the amount that technology could be used in an early elementary classroom. Did it help you realize more after you did your mentor interview project? That's when I really learned about all of the uses for technology. Why is excel your favorite program? What other uses do you think you will have for it in the future?
